Should you get a wireless mouse or stick to the trackpad?

Laptop users face many computer-related conundrums on a daily basis, but, one of the biggest is the toss-up between using a wireless mouse, or sticking with the trackpad. This might seem like a minimal issue, but it can actually have much more of an impact on your computer usage than you might imagine, and this is why it is worth bearing in mind.

When you are working out how best to use your laptop, this is definitely one of the factors you are going to need to keep in mind. The fact of the matter is that there is no right or wrong answer to this, and it is largely down to personal preference. But here are some of the advantages and disadvantages to each.

Wireless mouse

The computer mouse has come a long way since its inception and continues to be one of the most important parts of a computer. However, the cumbersome plug-in computer mouse of yesteryear has been replaced by a sleeker and more effective wireless number. The mouse offers much cleaner and more concise control of the cursor, as well as feeling more natural for hand position.

However, the drawbacks to the wireless mouse are that it will usually run on a battery, and if this runs out the mouse will no longer function. And, another issue is the fact that if you are working out of the office, somewhere like a coffee house, a mouse will take up extra table room, when space might well be at a premium. The wireless mouse is essential for those who like to enjoy more natural and comfortable laptop use.

Trackpad

The trackpad is something that has become the default choice for laptop users, and that is because of its convenience. A trackpad is the in-built part of a laptop and comes attached to all laptops. Now, there are advantages to this, in that the trackpad is already there and ready to use immediately. It also doesn’t require additional space, or a battery to allow it to operate, and can be used any time, anywhere.

But there are drawbacks to these, mostly that they feel unnatural, and they don’t quite offer completely smooth control of the cursor when being used. Many of these differ in terms of size and position on the front of the laptop, and this can cause an annoyance to some users. At the end of the day, the trackpad is an acquired taste, and while some users will love it, others will actively loathe it, and go out of their way to use anything else.

As you can see, there are positives and negatives for both options, and it largely depends on what your personal preference is. Many people find the trackpad easier and more efficient, while others can’t imagine using anything besides a wireless mouse. Whatever choice helps you to be as productive as possible on a daily basis is the important thing. But we would say, if we’re working at home, the mouse would definitely be the right choice, whereas a cafe environment would lend itself more to the trackpad.
