This documentary explores the different sides to Andre the Giant, a well-known French wrestler, who is also known for starring in the movie “The Princess Bride”. It shows him as the champion that he was, but human side to him is also revealed.

2. Atomic Homefront (2017) – director: Rebecca Cammisa

This documentary follows the aftereffects of the Manhattan project that took place in St. Louis, North America. St. Louis was first a major processing site for nuclear energy and later it became a dumping site for nuclear waste. This documentary explores the consequences of the nuclear waste and processing and what can potentially be done to fix this problem. Furthermore, it also touches on the universal problem of nuclear waste that many other countries are battling with currently.

3. David Bowie: The Last Five Years (2018) – director: Francis Whately

This documentary explores the last five years of the life of David Bowie, the brilliant musician. It covers all the huge projects that Bowie decided to take on before his life tragically came to an end, after a battle with a terminal illness, including the musical Lazarus and the albums “The Next Day” and “Blackstar”. This documentary was released on what would have been Bowie’s 71st birthday, which is very fitting and a great tribute to him.

4. The Fence (2010) – director: Rory Kennedy

This documentary is about the United States Government and how it attempted to build a 700-mile fence along the Southern Mexican border in 2006 in order to better contain illegal immigration into America. It took 3 years, 3.1 billion dollars, and many unforeseen consequences later to reveal that this was not as well-thought out a plan as initially thought. This is an  exceptionally interesting watch and highly recommended!

5. Becoming Warren Buffet (2017) – directors: Peter Kunhardt and Brian Oakes

This documentary follows the life of Warren Buffet, one of the richest men in the world. It shows his brilliant skill with numbers as a young Nebraskan boy and his skill with investments, which eventually led him to gain his riches and more money than he could ever dream of spending.

6. May It Last: A Portrait of the Avett Brothers (2017) – directors: Judd Apatow and Michael Bonfiglio

The Avett Brothers are an American folk-rock band that are from North Carolina. This band is even more unique as the two musicians are brothers, hence the name Avett Brothers. Working with a sibling can be a wonderful but challenging experience and this documentary portrays this perfectly. It allows the viewer to get a close insight to their favorite music band as they work on their album “True Sadness”, but it also reveals some of the challenges they had to go through in life and with each other.
