The best comedy shows to get on post-Big Bang Theory

Like all good things in life, The Big Bang Theory has come to an end. Chuck Lorre, the mastermind behind the BBT did what most directors and teachers have failed to do… make science funny! Who knew that millions of people around the globe would be tuning in to follow a group of nerds that are somewhat socially awkward, love quantum physics, and even have a vlog dedicated to flags of the world.

Over the past 12 years, we have watched Sheldon, Amy, Raj, Penny, Howard, Leonard, Bernadette, and Stuart grow into their own. Sadly, the day has come where we must say goodbye and leave the rest of their shenanigans up to our imaginations. While it may have been hard to hold back the tears during the season finale, the good news is that there are more Big Bang worthy shows to fill the time slot with.

Here are a few of the best post-Big Bang Theory shows to add to your watchlist.

Community

If light-hearted shenanigans, friendship, and epic paintball battles are your kind of thing, then add Community to your watchlist. This hilarious sitcom follows the lives of average Joes who have found themselves enrolled at Greendale college. The unlikely group of friends includes Jeff, a barred lawyer who is too cool for school; Annie, the overachiever; Troy, former high school football star; Britta, the activist; Abed, the Dungeons and Dragons loving nerd; Shirley, the devoted mom; and Pierce, the elderly millionaire. The mix of personalities and differences is a recipe for the perfect storm!

The IT Crowd

The IT Crowd is a nerdy masterpiece in its own right. The series follows three geeky oddballs who work in the IT department for a large corporation. The corporation doesn’t really acknowledge the IT department, which is why they have been left to their own devices in the basement of a huge skyscraper. The series is filled with comic wit, clever one-liners, and of course cringeworthy situations that are guaranteed to cause a fit of laughter.

Young Sheldon

The Big Bang Theory may have come to an end, but Sheldon Cooper is not leaving our screens anytime soon. Young Sheldon is a sitcom based on the life of Sheldon Cooper as a nine-year-old boy genius. Viewers get an in-depth look into the childhood of our favorite theoretical physicist and what life was like living with his annoying twin sister, overprotective mother, hilarious Meemaw, and football-loving father and brother. Just like the Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon is a comical masterpiece that stays true to the original character’s quirks and flaws.

Modern Family

Every family has its ups and downs and Modern Family has hit the “ unique family dynamics” nail on the head. This sitcom follows the story of three Dunphy-Pritchett generations, which is filmed in a documentary-style format, much like The Office. Besides the hilarious antics that the gang gets up to, we could all learn a thing or two about the importance of family from this hit show.

There are so many other comedies on the list, but these were just a few that have really stood out to most Big Bang fans. Each one has the perfect balance of real-life situations, strong friendships, and of course, gut-clenching humor. The Big Bang may be over, but there is always room for another “sitcom family” on your couch.
